Questions

One day I was sitting, asking
Who do I need to be
Then I red the words
That spoke the question into me

What does it mean to be poor in spirit?
and why does it open heaven's door
What does it mean to mourn over our ways
what comfort is in store

What does it mean to be meek
How would this inherit the earth
What does it mean to hunger and thirst for righteousness
what does it give birth

One day I was sitting, asking
Who do I need to be
Then I red the words
That spoke the question into me

How should I be merciful
in mercy what should I gain
What does it mean to be the pure in heart
to walk into God's domain

How do I become a peacemakers
That I should be called a child of God
what does it mean to be persecuted for righteousness' sake
That I should step on Heaven's sod

One day I was sitting, asking
Who do I need to be
Then I red the words
That spoke the question into me

Blessed are the Poor in Spirit

I came here with my pockets full
Of plans I made and pride I grew
But every well I dug stayed dry
And every wall just blocked the view

I'm standing at the edge of me
With nothing left to claim or hold
So I come as a child
Losing the brass and gold

Some come dressed in flowing robes
And some come as little children
He has told us who He sees
The lowly heart is welcome here in

Those who set themselves on high
He will turn away His eyes
The proud and arrogant He will turn away
But the humble He will not despise

The first will be last
Ad the last will be first
And those content to stay in the middle
Will never move

For such is the kingdom of heaven
For those who come as children
Blessed are the meek and lowly
They will dwell in the presence of the Great Amen

For Unless we come like children
We will never be welcomed in

Let nothing rise from strife or vanity
In lowliness we must esteem each other
Looking beyond our own concerns
And bearing the burdens of another

We must clothe ourselves in compassion
In kindness, gentleness, and patience
Forgiving as the Lord forgave us
Letting His mercy lead the way

For such is the kingdom of heaven
The mountains and valleys will be made even
Whoever humbles themselves
Will be exalted by the Lord

For Unless we come like children
We will never be welcomed in

Whoever would be great among us
Let them become a servant
The Son of Man came to serve
And give His life for many

When I dare not lift my eyes to heaven
I pray God be merciful to me
Knowing The humble heart goes home forgiven
The proud will be forgotten

The first will be last
And the last will be first
And those content to stay in the middle
Will never move

For such is the kingdom of heaven
For those who come as children
Blessed are the meek and lowly
They will dwell with the Great Amen

For such is the kingdom of heaven
The mountains and valleys will be made even
Whoever humbles themselves
Will be exalted by the Lord

For Unless we come like children

Unless we come like children

Blessed are Those Who Mourn

I make really good excuses
I can justify any behavior
Why feel sorry
For something i can simply rationalize away

Breaking someone who is already broken
Serves no greater purpose
But comforting someone who will not repent
Will harden the resolve of a callous heart

The tears of a clown
Are better than a victor's yell
We can never be raised up from the ash
If we will not recognize that we fell

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
A broken and contrite heart, God will not despise.
To understand where we have trusted in lies
Is better than being wise in our own eyes

To rend our clothes without rending our heart
Is futility at the start
How can we repent from where we depart
If we will not let god's grace impart

If we do not recognize we have fallen short
We cannot grasp we have truly lost our way
If we refuse to find sorrow in the errors on our report
We will find ourselves in a game god refuses to play

The tears of a clown
Are better than a victor's yell
We can never be raised up from the ash
If we will not recognize that we fell

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
A broken and contrite heart, God will not despise.
To understand where we have trusted in lies
Is better than being wise in our own eyes

Sorrow and repentance open the door
That our sins may be blotted out
A promise paid for by Jesus christ
That we can hold on to without a doubt

Godly sorrow produces a repentance
A repentant that leads to salvation without regret
Worldly sorrow produces death that destroys
Where we've been and where we haven't gone yet

The tears of a clown
Are better than a victor's yell
We can never be raised up from the ash
If we will not recognize that we fell

The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
A broken and contrite heart, God will not despise.
To understand where we have trusted in lies
Is better than being wise in our own eyes

Blessed are the Meek

Meek is not weak
Meek is not bleak
Meek will not try to steal
The branch from the dove's beak

It is the quiet in the storm
Choosing each word with grace
A steady hand in the cold
With mercy upon its face

Strength in the silence
Power in the pull
The cup is never empty
The heart is always full

It is the giant standing tall
Who refuses to use the sword
The one who hears the call
Without a single boastful word

Knowledge without arrogance
Words without boasting
Actions without coercing
A patience without demanding

Strength in the silence
Power in the pull
The cup is never empty
The heart is always full

A river deep and wide
That doesn't need to roar
Carrying the weight inside
To the distant shore

It's not about the loudest voice
Or who can claim the prize
It's a deliberate choice
Seen through humble eyes

Strength in the silence
Power in the pull
The cup is never empty
The heart is always full

Meek is not weak
Meek is not bleak
Meek will not try to steal
The branch from the dove's beak

Blessed are Those Who Hunger and Thirst for Righteousness Sake

The dirt is dry beneath my feet
The sun is heavy on the road
I see the people on the street
Each one carries a heavy load

But I am looking for the truth
A way to make the crooked straight
Some have sought for it since their youth
Outside the narrow, quiet gate

Blessed are those who thirst
Blessed are those who hunger
For the right to be done
For the light to be shown

It's a deep desire in the soul
A craving that makes us whole

It isn't found in silver coins
Or honors given by the crowd
It's in the way the spirit joins
With every head that's humbly bowed

I want to see the scales be fair
I want to see the truth prevail
A simple, honest, urgent prayer
A spirit that will never fail

Blessed are those who thirst
Blessed are those who hunger
For the right to be done
For the light to be shown

It's a deep desire in the soul
A craving that makes us whole

The well is deep and running clear
The promise holds through every year
You will be filled, you will be known
The seeds of justice have been sown

Blessed are those who thirst
Blessed are those who hunger
For the right to be done
For the light to be shown

It's a deep desire in the soul
A craving that makes us whole

Blessed are the Merciful

It's a lesson in reaping what we sow
Mercy granted is mercy we bestow
The seeds we plant in the hardened clay
Determine the harvest at the end of day

If we hold a debt that we won't let go
Our own heavy chains are all we show
But if we release what we think is due
The light of the morning will pull us through

Forgiveness is a one-way street
That starts with the Father's grace
It finds us when we're incomplete
And meets us face to face

But can be received
Only when we burden another's disgrace
Yes, it can be received
Only when we burden another's disgrace

We look for a hand to pull us out
While locking the door with walls of doubt
We want the weight to be lifted high
But keep our brothers and sisters beneath the sky

The measure we use is the one we get
A bitter collection of old regret
So, open the gate and let it slide
There's no more reason to run and hide

Forgiveness is a one-way street
That starts with the Father's grace
It finds us when we're incomplete
And meets us face to face

But can be received
Only when we burden another's disgrace
Yes, it can be received
Only when we burden another's disgrace

Bless the ones who caused the pain
Wash the anger in the rain
Take the cross that they should bear
Find the freedom waiting there

Forgiveness is a one-way street
That starts with the Father's grace
It finds us when we're incomplete
And meets us face to face

But can be received
Only when we burden another's disgrace
Yes, it can be received
Only when we burden another's disgrace

Take the cross that they should bear
Find the freedom waiting there

Blessed are the Pure in Heart

I stripped away the masks today
Threw the heavy stones aside
Left the pride along the way
Nothing left for me to hide

Wash our eyes
Wash our heart
Not just a point of view
But a way of life

No room for arrogance
No glory our conscience fed
No room for convenience
Humility paves the road we tread

Self-indulgence has no room here
Perfect love has cast out fear

No excuses
For the patterns of yesterday
Not just change the siding
Change the piping throughout the house

Shortcuts fail to find the way
To the fountain where purity flows
Justification finds no place
In purities transparent glow

No room for arrogance
No glory our conscience fed
No room for convenience
Humility paves the road we tread

Self-indulgence has no room here
Perfect love has cast out fear

Abandon the pedestal
Stacked with piles of masks we used to wear
Only empty hands can grasp the holiness
That adorn the grace we share

Jesus, wash the windows of my soul
Let the light come rushing in
Clean and whole
Wash the windows of my soul
So I will see you

No room for arrogance
No glory our conscience fed
No room for convenience
Humility paves the road we tread

Self-indulgence has no room here
Perfect love has cast out fear

Blessed are the Peacemakers

Lay down your stones
We're not called to walk the road alone
Forget the debts, forget the pride
There is no reason left to hide

Angry waves cannot still the waters
Move on by letting go

We are called to bear the burden of peace
Compassion is the way, let the striving cease
It's not about compromise
But driving the car by letting go of the keys

We are not called to win every battle
For that victory belongs to Jesus
We are called to reconcile
By bridging the mountains that divide us

Angry waves cannot still the waters
Move on by letting go

We are called to bear the burden of peace
Compassion is the way, let the striving cease
It's not about compromise
But driving the car by letting go of the keys

Blessed are those who choose to forgive
Showing the world a new way to live
Harder to build than to tear it away
But look at the light in the coming day

We are called to bear the burden of peace
Compassion is the way, let the striving cease
It's not about compromise
But driving the car by letting go of the keys

Angry waves cannot still the waters
Move on by letting go

Blessed are Those who are Persecuted for Righteousness Sake

Taking the nail
For what we believe
Is better than demanding compliance
And demanding we have the right to receive

Walking the narrow path alone
Where the seeds of doubt are sown
Taking the nail for what we believe
Better than a hand that takes to receive

Blessed are the persecuted ones
Whose path in trial does not bend
Blessed are those who suffer for righteousness
The kingdom belongs to them

We don't demand the world comply
Or ask the reasons for the why
The truth is harder than the pride
With nothing left for us to hide

Blessed are the persecuted ones
Whose path in trial does not bend
Blessed are those who suffer for righteousness
The kingdom belongs to them

It is a weight we choose to bear
A crown that anyone can wear
For righteousness and for the sake
Of every promise that we make

Blessed are the persecuted ones
Whose path in trial does not bend
Blessed are those who suffer for righteousness
The kingdom belongs to them

Taking the nail
For what we believe
Is better than demanding compliance
And demanding we have the right to receive
